Prep Back in Business (8/22/11)

In this August 5 photo, the new window framing along Warren Street had already brought the exterior look of Prep's new science center closer to reality. Prep offices reopened Monday following a two-week break, but construction work has continued steadily. More photos.

Prep's summer community reconvened Monday morning following the annual two-week August closing. Though most offices lay dormant during the recess, the operations staff – as well as the crews constructing the new science center – remained hard at work. Later, we'll bring you a walkthrough of the latest construction progress, but for now, here is a look at where things stood just before the break.

From the exterior, the centerpiece of the transformation will be the large areas of glass along the Warren Street and York Street facades, comprising new, large windows as well as matching spandrel treatments. As Prep moved into the August recess, workers pressed forward with construction, with nearly all of the framing in place on all sides by August 5 (Glass has since been installed – update to follow). Roofing and interior work continued as well, while the new glass curtain wall on the first floor's Warren Street facade offered a glimpse (literally!) of the new admissions suite.
