Message from the Director

Dear Members of the Prep Community,

In Chapter 24 of the gospel of Luke, we find the Emmaus passage that has become so important to our Prep community. Two of Christ’s disciples are walking on the road to Emmaus after His death. Jesus, raised from the dead, joins them on their journey. They don’t recognize Him at first, but when they do, they know it is Christ because their “hearts were burning within” them.

This idea of one’s heart being on fire is a powerful image, and an appropriate theme for our school year. When our hearts are on fire, we are most fully alive, and most fully ourselves. We’re experiencing the joy that can only come as a result of being close to our God, as the disciples on the road to Emmaus noticed. In today’s busy world, this can manifest itself in a number of ways – playing the sport we love, teaching a challenging lesson in the classroom, spending time with friends and family.

This year, the song from which we take our theme was written by one of our music teachers, Mr. Gianpaolo Eleria, and our chorus, Prep Vox. This was an important project for them, one that allowed them to pursue their passions and create something meaningful for Prep. Truly, this process of creating, editing, and producing was an example of “hearts on fire” within our school community – of people being pulled closer to God through their own gifts and talents.

This year challenges us to discover what really makes us come alive - what sets our hearts on fire – and use that knowledge to share our gifts with one another.

Peace of Christ,

Ms. Maura Toomb
Director of Campus Ministry
