With a 14-13 win over top-seeded Ridge HS on Wednesday night, Prep Fencing completed a second consecutive undefeated season, and successfully defended the NJSIAA team championship, a truly outstanding achievement for one of Prep Athletics' youngest programs!
A dominant showing in the epee and saber bouts – including undefeated outings of three epee wins by Lucas Motir and three saber wins by David Garrelick – led the way for the Marauders. Bryce Besler (saber), Juan Carlos Nieves (epee), and Owen Possick (saber) each contributed two wins, with one win apiece for Declan Alvidrez (foil) and Desmond Luck (epee) rounding out Prep's total.
Other Prep teams in playoff action this coming weekend include district champions Prep Wrestling (regionals continue at Union High School – 6 pm Friday and 9 am Saturday) and Basketball (Hudson County final vs. Hudson Catholic, 7 pm Saturday at Saint Peter's University).
Among other achievements, this year's winter season has already seen Bowling win a state sectional title and Indoor Track and Swimming (their eighth in a row) notch earn their respective county crowns, while Hockey reached the NJSIAA semifinals.
